Bengaluru emerges as the most musically inclined city in the country: Snapdeal report

On the occasion of World Music Day, Snapdeal, India’s largest online marketplace revealed India’s musical inclinations through shopping trends of musical instruments across India in the first half of 2016.  With 60% of the demand coming from metropolitan cities, the category has recorded tremendous growth online.

According to the report, Bengaluru led the sales of musical instruments at 18%, closely followed by Kolkata at 15%, whereas Mumbai saw the third highest demand for musical instruments with 6%. The study further reported that, Guitars and Bass are the top selling musical instruments, followed by Keyboards and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) and Brass and Wind Instruments.

Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh among the states are biggest purchasers of musical instruments. Interestingly, digital musical instruments seem to be catching on, they accounted for as much as 30% of all instruments sold online.  The most popular of these were Casio MA-150 Electronic Keyboard, Yamaha PSR E253 Electronic Keyboard, Boss ME-25 Guitar Multiple Effects Processor, Radel Dg108 Digital Tanpura, Alesis DM6 USB Electric Drum kit. The findings also indicated that Brass & Wind Instruments were the highest selling instrument in Bihar whereas Keyboards & MIDI Controllers are most sold in Tamil Nadu.
