Doordarshan to launch Arun Prabha channel for NE states in Jan 2017

Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Information & Broadcasting, has said that a new dedicated Doordarshan channel – Arun Prabha – would be launched in the first part of January 2017. The channel would show the richness, variety and diversity of local culture and would seamlessly integrate North East with the entire country. 

The Minister has also announced 90 per cent subsidy for North Eastern states and 75 per cent subsidy for other states to set up community radio stations to help disseminate information in localised content. 

Speaking further at the 28th State Information Ministers Conference held in New Delhi, Naidu mentioned that the Government of India would formulate a National Information & Communication Policy in consultation with states for a comprehensive and integrated approach toward communication and information dissemination. 

Speaking about the role of Public Broadcaster in the information dissemination process, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore, said that Doordarshan and AIR needed to establish connect with the people not only geographically, but also focus on the content and programmes. He also touched upon the activities carried out by media units and training institutes under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
