Hero I-League stadium attendance up 40% from previous season

As the Hero I-League season reaches its second phase of the fixtures, AIFF Media has released some interesting statistics from the League so far.

Below are some of the interesting points from Hero I-League this season:

  • Defending champions Mohun Bagan unbeaten in the league so far. (Won 5, Drew 3, Lost 0)
  • Mohun Bagan are also top of the league, with a slender 1 point lead from local rivals Kingfisher East Bengal
  • Mohun Bagan also has the most number of goals so far (14), Kingfisher East Bengal in the meanwhile has conceded just 4 goals in the opening eight games
  • Shillong Lajong with 4 goals in eight games has the least goals this season
  • A total of 79 goals have been scored this season
  • Mumbai FC (6 goals in the entire season) have been involved in 3 out of a total of 5 goal-less draws this season
  • Bikash Jairu (Kingfisher East Bengal), CK Vineeth (Bengaluru FC), Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC), Sushil Kumar Singh (Mumbai FC) are the leading Indian goal scorers in the league so far with 3 goals each
  • The Kolkata Derby was the most attended match in the league so far (62,842)
  • Mohun Bagan was involved in all the three most attended games of the season so far (Mohun Bagan vs Kingfisher East Bengal: 62,842 (23rd January, 2016, Salt lake Stadium); Bengaluru FC vs Mohun Bagan: 18,564 (13th February, 2016, Sree Kanteerava Stadium) ; Mohun Bagan vs Aizawl FC: 13,443 (9th January, 2016, Barasat Stadium)

The statistics also contains stadium attendance numbers from the season so far. Hero I-League this year has seen an encouraging response from the football fans across India with the average attendance rising from 5909 to 8296 this season. A staggering 40% raise from previous season.
