ITC Limited honored with FICCI award!

ITC Limited, recently, at the 82nd Annual General meeting, Delhi was awarded the FICCI award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Rural and Community Development’. Pranab Mukherjee, finance minister presented the award to Y C Deveshwar, chairman, ITC.

ITC Limited – which previously stood for Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited, now is an Indian conglomerate with a turnover of US $ 4.75 billion. ITC’s businesses have created livelihoods for 5 million people, many of whom represent the poorest in Rural India. Also, it is the only company in the world to be carbon positive, water positive and solid waste recycling positive.

Moreover, the company’s rural development programmes currently support 6,500 e-choupals in 10 states covering 40,000 villages benefiting over 4 million farmers, and 65 rural development projects, operating in 50 districts across 11 states reaching out to over 1.85 lakh households.

The ITC has put in place multidimensional rural development programmes involving farmers and local communities, co-creating a better future. ITC’s e-choupal, watershed and agricultural development initiatives have led to higher productivity, enhanced economic capacity and raised living standards of rural people.
