Facebook’s new “Privacy Controls” to simplify privacy options for its social network and its “Transition TooL” which promote Everyone Updates as their new default- giving rise to the transit of the site as a social network known for its privacy policy as a force to contend Twitter may result in a debacle.

On the face of it, no pun intended, Facebook appears to be giving users greater privacy and a greater edge of control over the information they share. The truth of it is that they’re pushing people to share with the public. Imagine the potential job-seeker’s plight!

In June 2009 ,Facebook innovated the Everyone update- which, unlike other content protected by Facebook- may be disseminated to other sites and third parties such as Google and Bing, which cache data.

Although Facebook stipulates that any information stored on the site may be deleted, it has no control over external usage when it comes to Everyone updates. So, if anyone shares a little too much information, it may be deleted from Facebook but has already found itself to other sites over which Facebook has no control. Woe to the potential job-seeker with indiscriminations on record!

Although it has issued plenty of notifications about the privacy settings, Facebook is relieving itself of future backfiring- it will claim that people have voluntarily placed their information on the site- knowing fully well that 80% of its users don’t review privacy settings.
