Pirelli – the world’s fifth largest tyre maker – has appointed Young & Rubicam as the agency to handle its global account. interestingly, Pirelli had fired Young & Rubicam from the business about ten years ago.

There were a number of agencies involved in the pitch for an account that is estimated to be in tune of £40 million. Y&R was Pirelli’s agency back in the 90s and created the “power is nothing without control” campaign for which Carl Lewis was roped in as well. Pirelli and Y&R parted ways after an issue over a TV campaign that featured football star Ronaldo. Following the split, Pirelli handed over the account to Amrmando Testa. Wieden & Kennedy were given the mandate last year.

A new integrated campaign is said to kick off early next year.
