Among top 10 Dailies
Biggest gainers:
Malayala Manorama (Malayalam Newspaper): Gained 258,000 readers over Q1
Hindustan (Hindi Newspaper): Gained 229,000 readers over Q1
Rajasthan Patrika (Hindi Newspaper): Gained 215,000 readers over Q1
Big losers:
Dainik Jagaran (Hindi Newspaper): Lost 388,000 readers over Q1
Matrubhumi (Malayalam Newspaper): Lost 132,000 readers over Q1
Dainik Bhaskar (Hindi Newspaper): Lost 89,000 readers over Q1
Amar Ujala (Hindi Newspaper): Lost 74,000 readers over Q1
Analysis: Overall among the top 10 dailies it’s a marginal growth of readers by 0.17% but the growth of Malayala Manorama: 3%, Hindustan: 2% and Rajasthan Patrika: 3% is commendable because they have grown much more that the actual readership growth. This clearly shows that this growth to these gainers have come from negative growth of readership of Dainik Jagran: (-2%), Matrubhimi: (-2%), Dainik Bhaskar: (-1%).
Among top 10 Hindi Dailies
Biggest gainers:
Hindustan (Hindi Newspaper): Gained 229,000 readers over Q1
Rajasthan Patrika (Hindi Newspaper): Gained 215,000 readers over Q1
Nai Dunia (Hindi Newspaper): Gained 138,000 readers over Q1
Biggest losers:
Dainik Jagaran (Hindi Newspaper): Lost 388,000 readers over Q1
Dainik Bhaskar (Hindi Newspaper): Lost 89,000 readers over Q1
Amar Ujala (Hindi Newspaper): Lost 74,000 readers over Q1
Analysis: Overall among top 10 Hindi dailies there is again a marginal growth of 0.2%, but there is major jump in the readership of Nai Dunia by 9.8% followed with 5.6% growth of Prabhat Khabar, Rajasthan Patrika: 3.1% and Hindustan: 2.3% respectively. It’s again clear that this growth has come from the negative growth shown by leaders in the category which is like Dainik Jagaran: (-2.4%) and Nav Bharat (Mah/ Chh): (-2.4%) respectively
Among top 10 English Dailies
Biggest gainers:
DNA (English Newspaper): Gained 119,000 readers over Q1
The Times of India (English Newspaper): Gained 53,000 readers over Q1
Deccan Chronicle (English Newspaper): Gained 28,000 readers over Q1
Biggest losers:
Mumbai Mirror (English Tabloid): Lost 45,000 readers over Q1
The New Indian Express (English Newspaper): Lost 19,000 readers over Q1
Hindustan Times (English Newspaper): Lost 14,000 readers over Q1
Analysis: The biggest growth in the top 10 list of this category has come from DNA: 17% followed by Deccan Chronicle: 2.50%. However the No. 1 English language news paper ‘The Times of India’ with such a large base has still shown a growth of 0.75%. The negative growth has come from Mumbai Mirror – (-5.42%) and The New India Express: (-3.54%). The category has shown a marginal growth of 0.74% that means the major gainers has taken the market share of the major losers in this category.
Among top 10 Language Dailies
Biggest gainers:
Enadu (Telugu Newspaper): Gained 211,000 readers over Q1
Divya Bhaskar (Gujarati Newspaper): Gained 183,000 readers over Q1
Daily Sakal (Marathi Newspaper): Gained 110,000 readers over Q1
Biggest Losers:
Dinakaran (Tamil Newspaper): Lost 152,000 readers over Q1
Matrubhumi (Malayalam Newspaper): Lost 132,000 readers over Q1
There is no 3rd loser in the language daily category among the top 10 language dailies.
Analysis: This category too has shown a growth of 0.70% among the top 10 language dailies over Q1. The biggest growth has been recorded by Divya Bhaskar: 5.71%, followed by Enadu: 3.55% and Daily Sakal: 2.69%. The biggest negative growth has come from Dinakaran: (-2.93%) and Matrubhumi: (-1.97%). Since the category has grown by just 0.70% it’s clear that Divya Bhaskar, Enadu and Daily Sakal has take the market share of the loosers.
Over all the growth of the English News dailies and Language News Dailies were close to 0.70% as compared to Hindi News Dailies which remained at just 0.20%
