The dogfight continues. As general entertainment channel (GEC), Colours, has stamped its authority as being number one, the fight for the second and third spot is only getting more vicious than it ever was. Colours gained its popularity owing to its two reality shows – Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi. Action man Akshay Kumar hosts the Indian version of Fear Factor while the addition of Big B, Amitabh Bachchan, in the family is just the cherry the channel wanted!

Colours grossed 273 gross rating points (GRPs)during the week ended 3 October. This was an increase of 10 GRPs vis-à-vis the week before. Lower down the order, Zee TV has come out tops against Star Plus and is now ranked second with 251 GRPs – an increase of 30 GRPs while Star Plus fell 18 points as against 255 in the previous week.

Nitin Vaidya, COO, Zee Entertainment said, “We were in the race for the top spot till a few weeks back when problems cropped up with the distributor DEN Networks in the some parts of the country therefore our ratings dropped due to poor coverage. Last week the whole issue got resolved and the results are visible. Our strength is our content, Zee is not dependent on any one programme.”

There was, however, some solace for Star Plus since in the programmes category, the channel occupied the top two places with Yeh Rishta Kya kehlata Hai and Bidai. Zee TV and Colours collectively occupied the other eight positions hence making the two channels fare so well.

Sony Entertainment and NDTV Imagine were static at third and fourth places respectively.
