Following the recent controversy over the emergency contraceptive pills ads, the government is planning to set norms for such ads so as to ensure that the consumers are aware of its effects.

According to the reports, the drug technical advisory board has decided to form an expert committee to formulate guidelines so that the advertisements should explain the health hazards to discourage indiscriminate use.

ECP medicines are to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex to avoid pregnancy. Prescription drugs require consumers to get a doctor’s prescription to buy the medicine.
Rightnow Cipla is holding the largest market share with emergency contraceptive pills like I-pill and Pill 72.
