NDTV revamp: Vikram Chandra steps down as Group CEO; KVL Narayan Rao takes charge

The Board of Directors of New Delhi Television (Board) has approved the decision of Vikramaditya Chandra to step down from the position of Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Director of NDTV with immediate effect. Chandra was appointed as Group CEO in 2011 for a term of three years, which was further extended by another two years, with the specific mandate to strengthen the company’s diversification into digital areas, while retaining NDTV’s position as the most respected media brand.

 Meanwhile, NDTV has announced that Executive Vice-Chairperson K.V.L. Narayan Rao will be the Group CEO in addition to his responsibilities as Executive Vice Chairperson.

 Chandra has been a key member of the NDTV family since 1994, in a large number of roles – reporter, anchor, one of the founding members of NDTV.com and CEO. He has expressed the wish to return to full time journalism within NDTV and focus on the TV shows of the Group.

 Chandra is one of the few people who can move effortlessly from the 9 O’clock news to Gadget Guru to the Big Fight and from there to a ‘Cleanathon’ or a ‘Save the Tiger’ campaign and will continue to work on all of these areas as Consulting Editor with NDTV.

 K.V.L. Narayan Rao has been associated with the Company for nearly 22 years in various capacities including Group CEO and has been a key factor in the creation of NDTV and he embodies the DNA of the organisation.

He has served three terms as the President of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA). He has also been on the Board of Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and Vice President of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association. He continues to be on the Board of both the NBA and the IBF.
