Raj Jain joins as CEO, BCCL

There has been speculation in the industry about Raj Jain moving from Bharti Retail to BCCL. In the past we have reported the same. Our sources have confirmed the news with us that he is joining as CEO BCCL from the first week of December.

We were unable to elicit any comments from the stakeholders. 

Though there is no update on who is the next CEO of Bharti Retail, sources say that the format has not worked quite well as their store in Navi Mumbai shut down in August this year and the next suburban one is closing this month end.

Jain, who is expected to take charge of his official responsibilities from the first week of December, has had an illustrious career. Jain, who was CEO at Bharti Retail, took up the role in January this year. In June last year, he quit as MD and CEO of Bharti-Walmart, the American retailer’s ill-fated joint venture with India’s Bharti group. Prior to this, Jain has also worked for Hindustan Unilever Ltd, which he joined as a management trainee in 1980. He spent 10 years at Whirlpool Corp. Jain joined Wal-Mart in China in 2006.
