Star Plus launches Manmarzian

In our country, young women are expected to follow a pre-determined template of how they should live life. As soon as they reach adulthood, they are expected to quickly marry and settle down with a man of their parent’s choice. But what if this girl wants to break this mound and exercise her own choice instead of following the set patterns?  What if she wants to have the freedom to choose her own identity, her career-option, her life partner and even her friends? STAR Plus’ new show Dosti..Yariyaan..Manmarzian recognizes this change in Indian society, and reflects the slow acceptance of every girl’s freedom to choose what her heart desires. Produced by the makers of Mahabharat, Swastik Productions, the show features protagonist Radhika Mishra, played by newcomer Monica Sehgal, who is a typical girl next door, but who wants to make her own choices and exercise her Manmarzian.

Radhika who belongs to a middle class family wants to find her true calling and explore the different options that life offers to her. Though accepting of the fact that someday she will do as her parents expect, for now she wants more in life. Like any other 21 year old, she too is not sure what it is that she wants to do, yet her arzi is to get to know herself, explore, dream before she settles into the expected pattern., . Monica Sehgal who hails from Ujjain in real life says, “I can relate to Radhika as it is my story. I put forth my arzi of moving to Mumbai to follow my dream and luckily for me my parents agreed. However, doing your manmarzi cannot mean going against your family, you need to involve and include them in your decision-making process. It is a negotiation for a little time to be allowed to do your manmarzi.  I hope Radhika’s story strikes a chord with all the young girls of India who just like her want to get to know themselves and forge friendships which will define them.”

Kashmira Irani will be seen making a comeback to TV after 7 years with this show, playing the parallel lead role of Samaira. The show explores the friendship of these two girls who challenge and inspire one another at every step of the way to go beyond the ordinary, move out of their comfort zones to discover themselves and find their true calling in life.
Kashmira Irani says, “My life has come full circle as I started off with Swastik Productions and they are re-launching me with this brilliant show. I am sure the audiences will like it as it’s young, fresh and so relatable and is the story of most Indian girls”.

Along with Monica Sehgal and Kashmira Irani  Manmarzian also stars Ahem Sharma as Arjun, and Shravan Reddy as Niel. They are joined by an ensemble cast including TV veteran Mohan Kapoor and Karan Khanna of Just Dance fame.

A statement by the channel said, “After the resounding success of Mahabharat, we are very happy to be associated with Swastik Productions once again. At STAR Plus our philosophy is to offer existing relationships in a new lens and with this show we explore the key relationship of friendship. We aim to create characters which are real and relatable to the youth today, and we are sure that they will see a reflection of their own story in Radhika and find aspiration in Samaira.”

“I feel privileged to extend my association with Star Plus. After Mahabharat which brought iconic characters to the fore in a provocative manner,  with Manmarzian we want to bring a fresh story and treatment to audiences and present unique, memorable and relatable characters at the same time. The show holds appeal not just to the youth but also their parents who will be able to better understand the dreams of their children. The show has been shot in real locations, to retain the local flavor and will surely help audiences connect better with the story and characters,” commented producer Siddharth Kumar Tewary from Swastik productions.
