Supreme Court to give Cricket World Cup live telecasts hearing in July

Recently, the Supreme Court  directed a special leave petition to the appeal by Prasar Bharati against the order of the Delhi High Court regarding the live telecast of the Cricket World Cup to come up in a hearing on Tuesday in July.

Under the judgement of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Prafulla C Pant, the Court said, "We are of the view that the interim order passed earlier to the effect that the impugned order dated 4 February of the High Court shall remain suspended should continue until further orders."

According to report made available, the judges also said, "It is our considered view that at this stage we ought not to consider the submissions made on behalf of the parties on the merits of the controversy as the same may have the effect of prejudicing either of the parties."

However, the Court said to consider the suggestion made by Star Sports that Doordarshan should set up an extra channel, which was said to be unviable by Prasar Bharati. Although, Star India has offered to give technical expertise to Prasar Bharati, but the pubcaster is not keen on considering the offer.

The judges said that the parties may exchange pleading, if pleaded.
