ADFEST 2011 releases list of winners!

ADFEST 2011 announced its winners on the 19th of March, Saturday at the 14th Asia Pacific Advertising Festival (ADFEST), held at Mövenpick Resort & Spain Phuket, Thailand.

This time around the Indian agencies put up a decent show by winning 18 metals in all and none of them have been able to bag a gold. In 2010 the agencies picked up around 34 of them.

This year though has Leo Burnett India has won around 6 metals which includes 3 Silver Lotus and 3 Bronze Lotus.

Creativeland Aisa has won 3 Silver Lotus 2 for LMN and 1 for their much talked about Hippo campaigns.

Winning a Silver and 2 Bronze, McCann Worldgroup has managed to win 3 Lotus at Adfest this year, which includes a silver for the Sanitol Hand Sanitizer campaign and 2 Bronze Lotus for Servo and Odomos campaigns.

Ogilvy and Mather has won 2 Bronze which is shared with Good Morning Films for Tightrope campaign for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and 1 Bronze each for Indian Railways and Nataraj Scales. Good Morning Films has one Silver for its campaign for Amnesty International in Film Craft category.

Bates141 has bagged a Bronze in Print Craft category for Staedtler Pens.

Sachin stars in new Castrol Activ TVC

Castrol Activ’s brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar stars in its latest TVC, communicating performance with confidence as the key to best deliveries. Castrol Activ is the market leader in the four stroke motorcycle engine oil segment and this is the first product brand commercial that Castrol has released with Sachin.

According to Giriraj Bagri, Vice President Marketing, Castrol India Limited, “With the ICC World Cup just a few days away, interest in cricket and Sachin at its peak, it is the ideal time to launch our new Castrol Activ TVC. The story line also fits in with the theme of cricket and performance. The right protection gives Sachin the confidence to face the most difficult deliveries on the pitch, similar to Castrol Activ’s superior protection that enables bikes to perform even under toughest driving conditions.”

The ad film starts with Sachin Tendulkar on a batting pitch where he is not wearing a helmet. A pace bowler is shown approaching the stumps to bowl to Sachin. The bowler bowls to Sachin and a close up of the ball bouncing on the pitch and rising high is shown. A side angle view shows Sachin facing the ball. Sachin Tendulkar then crouches and raises his bat but the ball seems to be headed to Sachin’s head. It is not sure if Sachin is going to hit the ball, miss it or leave it. Suddenly the screen freezes and the ball hangs in mid-air. Sachin gets off his stance while everything is still frozen and looks towards the camera and starts talking. Sachin goes out of the scene and comes back wearing a helmet. He comes back and takes his stance in front of the frozen ball, looks at the camera and turns to the ball. As soon as he does that the ball is released and Sachin hooks on to it. Sachin then picks up a pack of Castrol Activ. The last scene has a close up of the Castrol Activ pack in Sachin’s hand.

Conceptualized by Ogilvy and Mather, the TV commercial has been directed by Bappaditya Roy.

A strategic 360 degree campaign has been planned on the core message “Protection hai toh Confidence hai” platform, which involves a range of consumer engagement programs, digital platforms, mass media advertising, dealer and mechanic engagements and visibility drives.

Primesite ropes in Shermann Colaco

The Mudra Max owned Primesite has appointed Shermann Colaco as general manager.

Prior to this, Shermann was the management supervisor – account management for Ogilvy & Mather.

Shermann has over 13 years of experience in the advertising industry. He has worked with companies such as Barclays Bank, Axis Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Tata Indicom, AXN, Airtel, HBO, Hindustan Lever and Star Plus.

Shermann started his career with Primesite Outdoor advertising in 1999 and moved on to The Media Network in 2001.

He worked with Madison Outdoor Media Services and later, in 2002 moved to Portland India Outdoor advertising as group account director.
