Urban Women Drive Internet Usage In India. says IAMAI

In urban India, women lead the charge in the growth of Internet users. According to the IAMAI-IMRB ‘Internet in India’ report, in urban India, female internet users grew at 30%, far exceeding male users at 25%. This is a happy trend and we believe if it continues, the currently skewed ratio between men and women stands a chance of being rectified in the near future.

A break up of urban women users’ data reveals that Internet users among college going girls have increased by 62%, while the segment of school going girls registered a growth of 34%. Internet users among non-working women have grown by 18%. However, the growth is lower among working women when compared to other demographic groups at 8%. This suggests that the growth among women users would be driven by college going students and non-working women.

The report also found that in urban areas, 60% of the Working Women Internet users access Internet daily and 47% of non-working women access internet daily. The survey was conducted across 35 cities with more than 1 million populations in India.
