105 non-news channel not following the 12 minute ad cap set by TRAI

On 8 September the advertising cap will go through the further hearing in Delhi High Court, furthermore a new study reveals that of the 36 news and current affairs channels and 105 non news channels in total 141 television channels continue to telecast more than 12 minutes of advertising and commercials per hour in violation of the set rules.

The 141 television channels are going beyond the 12 minute timeframe during the peak timeslot of 7-10 pm. The study was undertaken for the period of 30 March to 29 June 2015. The study also showed that 19 non-news channels are showing 15 minutes advertising per hour.

The Court had asked Telecom Regulatory Authority of India not to take any action against any channel pending hearing of the case, but had asked TRAI to keep all the data about the advertising time consumed including commercials.

TRAI released the names of all the channel which are consuming more than 12 minute advertising cap in the non- news channels category some of the top Hindi GEC channels were Star Plus, Zee TV, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), Life OK, Sahara One, Epic TV etc.

Sab TV showed the highest number of advertising with 16.22 minutes per hour, Sony TV with 16.08, Life OK with 14.89, Star Plus with 14.83, Zee TV with 13.91, & TV with 13.56, Sahara One with 13, Epic TV with 12.94 and Colors with 12.86 advertising per hour.

In the Hindi movie section B4U Movies carried the maximum ad per hour. While UTV movies carried an average duration of 12.8 minute advertisement per hour. In case of Zee both Zee Pictures and &Pictures are carrying an average number of same minutes of ad per hour.

According to TRAI the information is based on the data submitted by the broadcasters while it bears no responsibility for the information given of channels violating the 12 minute ad cap.
