54% Urban Indians believe there is gender parity in workplaces: Survey

54% of urban Indians polled believe their workplaces are gender equal – though less number of women (46%) endorse this view, vis-à-vis men (62%).

Global citizens on the contrary, have about 56% disagreeing - only 4 in 10 (41%) endorse this view.

These are the findings of the Ipsos global survey on International Women’s Day 2020, that maps global attitudes to gender equality.

“Findings of the survey are highly urban centric, and I would believe education and ambitions have helped women carve out a niche for themselves in jobs. Though, rural Indian women, still have a long way to go, for gender parity with men ,” said Amit Adarkar, CEO, Ipsos India.

“The survey covers this year’s theme of International Women’s Day - I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights – and shows, we are doing better than most markets in providing equal opportunities to both genders,” added Adarkar.

Taking stock! How have we done so far in achieving Gender Equality

6 in 10 urban Indians are satiated with the level of progress made in achieving gender equality.

Way forward

At least 78% of urban Indians polled advocate a greater role for men in supporting women’s rights, which is seen as an enabler for gender equality. And global citizens too (68%), endorse the same and feel men can be more involved, in standing up for women’s rights.

More women leaders in business and politics, too are seen to positively impact gender equality and empowerment of women, by at least 69% urban Indians.
