92.7 BIG FM to conduct workshops to curb plastic wastage in Bengaluru

Moving forward on its commitment towards tackling the plastic menace, 92.7 BIG FM, one of India’s largest radio networks, recently joined hands with Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) and FMCG major ITC’s Foods Division for their initiative- #PlasticBeku. Taking its first step towards making a change for the better, RJs from BIG FM will put their best foot forward by visiting 20 schools as part of the collection drive and educate children about the issue of plastic in the city.

Integrating its brand philosophy, ‘change starts with you’, BIG FM aims to raise awareness about waste segregation at the source itself. Under this initiative, BIG FM’s renowned RJ Pradeepa and No.1 Morning show’s RJ Pat Pat Pataki Shruti along with all other RJs from BIG FM Bangalore. They will be visiting schools every week to engage with students and educate them about the value of segregating dry and wet waste in bins to help with recycling & reuse of waste plastic. Collection bins would be placed across each school for a week giving students and teachers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in recycling plastic.

RJs will be visiting more than 20 schools covering a wide spectrum of schools across various locations in Bengaluru, encouraging children to be a part of the campaign. The 3-month long school contact program will be conducted across schools such as New Bishop Cotton High School, St. Patrick's School, Sri Chatanya Techno School, New Horizon High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya MEG & Centre School, The Salonee School, Wisdom International School, NS Public School among others.

The initiative will help form an intra-city community of students across schools, working towards efficient waste management to create an effective socio-economic-environmental impact. The plastic waste collected through this drive will be further used by BAIL to pave its internal roads at the Kempegowda International Airport, Terminal 2.

Speaking about the collection RJ Pradeepa said, “We are proud to play a telling role in a plastic-collection drive being conducted on such a large scale. By advocating the need to reduce and recycle plastic to these young minds, we hope that they will act as the agents of change and make Bengaluru an even cleaner and greener city. By amplifying the reach of this campaign on an intra-city level, we’re hopeful that society can seek inspiration from these children. We are putting our best foot forward towards triggering a change in society that could help restore the glory of what Bangalore used to be”

Commenting on the initiative, RJ Shruthi said “Bangalore is known as the "Garden City of India" because of its greenery and open space. However, it is extremely sad to see the present condition of the city that is today littered with plastic everywhere. We feel a sense of responsibility to make this city pollution-free and a better place to live in. We take pride in being part of this noble initiative and help fight the hazards of plastic. Through this initiative, we would like to highlight the damages we are doing to the city as well as the environment and kindle new ideas in the young minds to work towards the betterment of this city.”

The main objective of the program is to sensitize students towards the need for an eco-friendly life while becoming community advocates to help the citizens to segregate waste at the initial level into dry and wet waste. Through this Plastic waste collection drive in the city, BIG FM will be running a series of programs to build awareness about Plastic Waste disposal and involve all individuals, societies, and schools in segregation and safe disposal of plastic waste in this drive.
