94.3 Radio One and Nokia hunts for music jockeys

94.3 Radio One, the "Maximum Music, Maximum Choice' station, has begun their hunt for fresh talent amongst college students across India. Radio One College Championship (ROCC) is the only interactive competition introduced by a radio station that brings out the best amongst the participants.

The first of its kind annual event from the house of 94.3 Radio One is the hunt for the finest talent amongst students who aspire to be Music Jockeys (MJs) on the station. The lucky few who manage to surpass the grueling semi final phase get a chance to intern at the radio station which exposes them to every single aspect of the working of a radio station.

ROCC will be supported with an extensive teaser campaign run on Radio One prior the registrations inviting potential contestants across all colleges to participate in the initiative. This will be followed by on-ground registrations and auditions in each of the seven cities. In Colleges where the on-ground auditions will be held are featured on the afternoon show where the MJs talk about the USP of the college.

Shyju Varkey, National head of Marketing 94.3 Radio One, said: "Radio One College Champions is 94.3 Radio One's way of spreading the love for radio amongst its most potent audience... The whole idea is for college kids to get a feel of the radio environment, so they can take a decision incase they would like to pursue radio as a career. More than anything else, this is a great way to connect with the youth on a large scale. So far there have been around more than 150 registrations in colleges across the country".

Entering its 6th year, this flagship initiated by 94.3 Radio One is a platform to identify and mentor potential talent for the radio industry. Through this Radio One connects with more than 20000 students across seven cities giving them an opportunity to hone their skills, test their Music quotient and plan a career in radio. It provides a new platform to young talents to compete with each other in order to become the best Music Jock for Radio One. Radio One has roped in some youth brands to sponsor the championship. As of now, Nokia is the title sponsor.

Commenting on this, Vineet Singh Hukmani, MD, Radio One said, "We are elated that we have been able to grow Radio One's College Radio Championship far above our expectations, keeping in tune with the high growth rate of our station. With the number of radio stations going up over the last 5 years and consequently, the need for radio professionals, there's little that has been done to polish talent as a process. Such hunts not just help in brand visibility but also throw up genuine talent."

The registrations will be held for two weeks where 94.3 Radio One would conduct canter activations with promoters, encouraging participation. The entries will then be scanned and 10 teams across 10 colleges will be chosen. These 10 teams will be invited to the Radio one studios for training where they write their own scripts, prepare links and produce the shows too.

This final selection of the winning team would be done by the Radio One panel of judges. Of the 10 teams, 2 will be selected for the finals, based on the number of votes they get and the points scored in the "training and preparation" phase. Listeners can catch the LIVE links from the on-ground audition on the station. The winning team will be unveiled on the station live.

Other than winning the title of "Radio One College Champions 2010", the winner will also become the "The star Campus jock of the year", where he/ she will be the Jock for "The Radio One College Show", to be hosted between 3-5pm every weekend for a period of 3 months.

94.3 Radio one is a joint venture with BBC worldwide...Starting August 26th, the ROCC registrations will be held across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai.
