A tool to gauge Emotional Intelligence on business performance!

Hay Group, a global management consulting firm recently launched the research-based 360 feedback tool, Emotional & Social Competency Inventory, at a 2-day seminar organised by the FEIL (Forum for Emotional Intelligence Learning). The seminar was addressed by Dr. Daniel Goleman (a renowned psychologist, researcher and author of the bestseller "Emotional Intelligence") and attended by eminent academicians and professionals committed to a common cause - the cause of spreading awareness of the impact of Emotional Intelligence (EI) on business performance.

The objective of the seminar was to talk about inspirational leadership and build awareness about EI. Online ESCI (Emotional & Social Competency Inventory) tests were conducted to educate the attendees about its features and related competencies.

EI is the new business issue with leaders. According to Dr. Daniel Goleman, the legendary name in EI and Leadership, "Numerous studies conducted across hundreds of roles and organizations in the past have shown that it's EI (Emotional Intelligence) which makes the difference between a highly effective leader and an average one. 75 ' 95% of career success can be attributed to EI whereas IQ accounts for only 4 ' 25%". A study of over 120 organisations has revealed that 67 percent of abilities deemed essential to performance were emotional competencies.

According to Hay Group's research of Indian CEOs they are found to be high on IQ & better in things like expansion plans, M&A, & inner strength but low on things like excellence in execution, team leadership, empowerment and accountability, which relates to EI, when compared to their counterparts in the West or China.

Indian CEOs need to work more on their Emotional Intelligence. Emotionally intelligent leaders help organizations create competitive advantage through; increased performance, enhanced innovation, effective use of time and resources, improved motivation & teamwork and restored trust.

Oscar De Mello Head of Productised Services, Hay Group, comments, "India's rapid growth story has set a demanding pace for managers at all levels ' to execute effectively. However, execution alone is not enough. Demonstrating a high level of Emotional Intelligence is just as important to ensure that not only does the organization win ' but also that its people win collectively."

He further explains, "The essence of the Emotional and Social Intelligence is captured in the Emotional and Social Competencies (ESCI) tool. This is a 360 degree diagnostic that uses feedback from the individual's work-environment to assess 12 competencies in four critical areas: Self-Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management".

ESCI (Emotional & Social Competency Inventory) is the proprietary tool developed by Hay Group, Dr. Daniel Goleman (the legendary name in Emotional Intelligence and Leadership and author of many best sellers) and Richard Boyatzis (an expert in the field of emotional intelligence).
