Aaj Tak further firms up supremacy in news genre in lockdown weeks

With the country under lockdown amid the COVID-19 crisis, total TV consumption continued to register growth, showing an increase of 43 per cent in Week 13, as per BARC-Nielsen. News and Movies genres clocked an all-time high growth across languages, with News registering a growth of 251 per cent. 

Hindi News genre clocked a growth of 234 per cent during the lockdown weeks, garnering a cumulative reach of 3,345,439(000) in Week 12-13’20. The genre’s cumulative reach stood at 1,003,042(000) in Week 1-11’20. 

At an All India level, the country saw a new leader in all channels in terms of reach during the last 2 weeks. This is for the first time in the country that any news channel has become the No. 1 TV channel continuously for 2 weeks. [Source: BARC, India, 2+, WK12'20 & Wk13'20,Cum Reach in Cr]. 

Aaj Tak has seen maximum growth among all National Genre leaders, growing 300 per cent. In Week 12-13’20, Aaj Tak garnered gross impressions of 589,409 (000) [Source: BARC, Market: HSM, TG: 2+, In Weekly Gross impressions, Period: Non Covid: W01 -W10'20 Vs Covid W12-W13'20].

In Week 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘#9PM9Mins’ address to the nation on April 3, 2020 was the top rated news slot of the week, where Aaj Tak was way ahead of the competition.
