Aaj Tak tops the charts with its coverage for Karnataka, Gujarat, UP polls

The country has been witnessing a spate of state assembly elections as well as by-elections in the last few months, the latest being the Karnataka elections. TV news channels have had their hands full with their election coverage.

 While all news channels saw a surge in poll related content, some channels stood apart with their election coverage. Emerging as a leader in the news genre is Aaj Tak, which saw great traction for its poll related content, especially on crucial counting days across different elections.

 As per BARC ratings for Week 20 (May 12-18), Aaj Tak led the Hindi news genre in Rural+Urban with gross viewership of 113,143 [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 15+ Individuals].

 On the recently held Karnataka elections polling day, result day and result week, Aaj Tak was No. 1 (Source – BARC, TG - 15+ NCCS ALL, Market – HSM, Period – WK 20’18.Gimp’000). The channel has a reach of 5.8 crore viewers on Karnataka elections counting day (Source – BARC, TG - 15+ NCCS ALL, Market – HSM, Period – May 15, 2018).

 Not just the Karnataka polls, Aaj Tak saw great traction during the Gujarat elections and the Uttar Pradesh by-elections held earlier this year. Aaj Tak was No. 1 during the Gujarat elections counting day and counting week (Source – BARC, TG - 15+ NCCS ALL, Market – HSM, Period – WK 51’17.Gimp’000). The channel was No. 1 during the Uttar Pradesh by-polls counting day and counting week (Source – BARC, TG - 15+ NCCS ALL, Market – HSM, Period – WK 11’18.Gimp’000).
