Abhijit Bose, Rajiv Agarwal leave Meta

Abhijit Bose, Whatsapp India head, and Rajiv Agarwal, the public policy director of Meta Platforms Inc, have submitted their resignations from the organisation. The exits follow close on the heels of the departure of Ajit Mohan, the head of Meta India, who has resigned after spending four years, in order to join competitor Snap Inc.
Earlier, Meta announced the reduction of its workforce by 13% by sacking over 11,000 jobs, amid Meta doubling down its bet on Metaverse, high inflation and a collapsing advertising market.
According a Meta spokesperson, the exits were not related to the recent layoff. Shivnath Thukral has been appointed as the new director for public policy in India at Meta, and the company is searching for a replacement of Bose. Facebook in India has been facing regulatory challenges with the strengthening of laws which govern the big-tech companies.
In an immensely competitive market, Whatsapp, which is the messaging service owned by Meta, has been building up its payments services, taking on players such as Paytm, backed by Ant Group, Google Pay of Albhabet Inc, PhonePe of Walmart, who are more established. Manesh Mahatme, who is the head of Whatsapp India’s payment business, has also quit the company in order to join Amazon India.
