Ad Land’s Young Guns: Prabal Takiar, Httpool India

After having completed his Masters in Advertising & Marketing Management from Amity University in 2015, Prabal Takiar, Twitter Client Partner (North & East), Httpool India, started his career with MagnonTBWA as a Client Servicing Executive, where he learned about Website Design and Development.

As he was always keen on mainline advertising, he joined McCann Erickson, where he was a part of the CommonWealth team (Anyone working in McCann globally on General Motors is part of a team called CommonWealth). At McCann, he learned about how advertising worked and was exposed to all the nitti-gritties which go into making a successful ad campaign. Burning midnight oil was a daily routine, but when you get to see the ad you have worked on in newspapers, TV, and on hoardings across the city, it makes it worth it.

Takiar’s digital world journey started in 2016 when he joined DGM (part of SVG group), where he found his forte in Client Servicing and Sales. Soon he moved to HTTPOOL, where he imbibed the Go for the kill attitude and was fortunate to have been allowed to sell a world-renowned platform like Twitter.

Working in different companies, learning different businesses, and working with all sorts of clients, has widened his horizon and enhanced his ability to comprehend different situations and business needs. In these 4+ years with HTTPOOL, he has learned a lot, which has helped him grow professionally and personally.

In his 6+ years of work experience, Takiar has worked on a bouquet of clients, such as:

HCL Software, Microsoft, Zomato, Dominos, Vistara, General Motors, Royal Enfield, Volvo, UNICEF, and Lufthansa.

What particular skill sets do you think you bring to the table?

Strong work ethics and professionalism, along with patience, flexibility, and empathy. My experience as an Account Manager has helped me deepen my understanding of the platform and its functions, resulting in providing the clients/ agencies with a well-rounded approach. This, paired with persistence, is the skillset that gives me an edge as a Client Partner.

How did you join your current organisation?

In 2016, when I had just started my digital career, I was looking for an opportunity to work with an organisation where I could grow both professionally and personally. An ex-colleague working with HTTPOOL presented me with the prospect. It was a quick decision to join after learning about the team and the culture of the organisation.

Icons in this field you look up to and how they have influenced you and your work?

Piyush Pandey – I have always admired his way of thinking and conveying messages via his unique concepts. How to get the message in the simplest of ways is one of the most challenging tasks. We live in a fast-paced world; people are exposed to different ads throughout the day. It has become even more difficult for brands to gain attention and convey their message. I try to imbibe his style of Keep it short and simple, wherein, I pitch ideas and concepts in a manner, which helps me put across my thoughts and ideas with the clients and agencies in a more effective way.

What are the five most productive things that you do in your everyday routine?

  • Listen to Music, take my Pug for a walk and play with him.
  • Start my day with Twitter - I like to stay up-to-date with what is happening globally. Twitter is a platform, which connects the world in the true sense.
  • Connect with teammates to interact with them and have a fresh perspective on various aspects of work and personal life.
  • Be active on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn to keep a tab on campaigns running in the market and prospect clients accordingly.
  • Planning my day – It helps me keep a track of everything I have planned for the day and go according to my planned schedule. It helps me be organised and sorted.

Do you think a career in this field is a viable one in the long term?

Yes, I started my career with mainline advertising, and soon enough, I realised that digital advertising is something I want to be in. Especially with the present situation and the current global scenario, the importance of digital platforms and the ecosystem has never been this cardinal in our day-to-day lives.

I believe it is very important for everyone to strike a healthy balance between work and personal life. Working in digital advertising with flexible working hours makes it a suitable career option in the long run.

What does it take to succeed in a career?

Personally, I feel exhibiting patience is the key to success. We should be prepared for the worst, hope for the best and keep on putting our best on a daily basis. One must enjoy the work they do.

What would be your advice to youngsters planning to enter this industry?

I would suggest exploring in the initial few years to better understand and have hands-on experience on various aspects of digital marketing to make an informed choice of which domain is best suited for you. Investing time in developing skillset and keeping oneself updated with the emerging trends plays an important role.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Honestly I haven’t given it a thought. Working here at HTTPOOL with a remarkable team, my career graph has only risen. I see myself exploring new avenues and further enhance my professional growth.

Is there any organisation that you would like to work with in the future?

Organisations are defined by the character of its leadership and employees. I would love to work with the current team in any organisation.
