Adgully Exclusive | NVIDIA's 3D Vision promises a better graphical experience

NVIDIA was launched in the year 1999, and it pioneered the work in computer graphics when it invented GPU in the same year. Ever since its inception the company has provided better visual computing solutions and interactive graphics for devices ranging from tablets and portable media players to notebooks and workstations.

NVIDIA on 21st of October 2010 announced the availability of its highly anticipated NVIDIA 3DTV Play software, which allows users to connect NVIDIA 3D Vision-enabled notebooks and desktops to 3D HDTVs for the ultimate high-definition, big-screen entertainment experience.

With NVIDIA 3DTV Play software, any compatible NVIDIA GeForce GPU-powered system can be connected to a HDMI 1.4 3D HDTV. The combination enables users to view 3D photos and videos, and play nearly 500 games in 3D environments, including StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Mafia II, and Call of Duty Black Ops. When using compatible video playback software, NVIDIA 3DTV Play software users can watch Blu-ray 3D blockbusters on 3D HDTVs in full 1080p stereoscopic 3D, enjoying rich, HD digital surround sound through an HDMI connection to a compatible audio/video receiver.

NVIDIA 3DTV Play software is bundled with a new family of Dell XPS laptops, which also includes high-performance NVIDIA GeForce 400M GPUs and battery-friendly NVIDIA Optimus technology. The new systems, which come in 14-, 15- and 17-inch screen sizes, provide a powerful multimedia system for consumers to enjoy their 3D content on 3D HDTVs.

With a client list ranging from Panasonic, Dell, HCL, Acer, Microsoft, Toshiba, CyberLink, Fujifilm, ASUS and BenQ NVIDIA has gradually become a leading name in the 3D space.

Adgully spoke to Nishant Goyal, Head of Sales, South Asia, NVIDIA Graphics Pvt. Ltd.

Talking about 3D Vision, Goyal says, "NVIDIA launched 3D Vision about two years back. In the last two years we have worked with the entire ecosystem. When I say entire, I literally mean the entire ecosystem that is relevant and important for the industry whether its PC industry, consumer electronics industry etc. We are trying to make sure that we have all the right products available and multiple products available."

Right now the company has a varied range of client products which is 3D Vision enabled, talking about this Goyal says that they want to provide a complete 3D experience to their users, and that the user can use a 3D PC the experience will be extended to monitors, projectors, laptop screens and also Televisions. "The experience of these 3D Vision enabled technology is out of this world. Anybody and everybody who has seen it so far has been blown away," he adds.

Elaborating further on how 3D Vision enriches the user experience, Goyal says, "The panel usually has been a flat piece of glass, and you need to trick your eyes or our eyes into thinking that there is depth to it. The feeling that there are dimensionalised objects coming out of it and you can reach for it. And giving this experience that one is into it and one is doing that stuff is 3D Vision."

When asked if the 3D industry in India is a full-fledged industry or is it in an evangelizing stage, Goyal says that the market is pretty full-fledged right now. However he quickly adds that initially the company did a bit of evangelising because there were not many technological options available in the country. "It has been two years since we launched 3D Vision and in the two years time we have worked with almost every industry. The wide range of product offerings that we have enabled over time is probably all the use cases that the users may want to do it. The industry is really progressive and it is not just us but the entire network feels the same," he contends.

But given the fact that India is a cluttered market space for many a variation of technological innovations, besides the difference in exposure to technology and communicational facilities across the country, how does the 3D technology appeal to the Indian market?

Goyal says, "If you really talk about India, India is an entertainment country, so anything that has got to do with entertainment will work in India. Besides I don't see market as smaller pockets or bigger pockets. I happen to look at the smartphones or maybe just the mobile phones and they are evenly spread in India. It is the pace of adoption that differs, but the moment a product is made relevant and you give the compelling use- case for people to buy, you are home."

He signs off by speaking about what 3D simply means, he says, "3D is nothing but adding another dimension to your life."

NVIDIA seems the next big thing in the 3D world providing better graphical services to clients and an enhanced experience to the users. The Company with its more than 1,600 patents worldwide is definitely going to provide a sea change in the way we see and experience TV, movies, pictures and games. | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
