Adgully turns 3 | 3 Entertainment 'Surprises'!

After much of uphill struggle and hard work, today, Adgully successfully completes one more year in this domain. With entering into its 3 year Adgully celebrates 'Power of 3'. Here in this category we are looking at 3 surprises that wooed the audience in the entertainment sector.

There seems to be no surprise with the success of Star Plus's talk show 'Satyamev Jayate'! What was surprising here was the fact that a talk show of such nature would create so much buzz amongst the audiences. A look at the entertainment industry, one realises the long list of shows with ‘social message’; but Satyamev Jayate stirred not only the viewers, but bureaucrats and the government as well. Aamir Khan was seen answering several questions and up-fronting our government through the course of the show. We believe what flattered the audience was Aamir's emotional touch to this kind of concept. The finer nuances of the show like the music used in the show, was also a major point of attraction. Well! The show not only abuzzed television screens but banged the social media space as well. Before the show could start, the excitement and curiosity was flooding on Twitter; the channel succeeded in maintaining and creating the curiosity among the audience, which was again a strong marketing tool by the channel!

Prior to, Satyamev Jayate on television, a surprise for the audience came in the form of Sujoy Ghosh’s directorial venture, Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan. Staying true to its title, the film's 'kahani' was an off-beat one, lived up to the concept of strong script and turned out to be a decent film. One lead star, not much of marketing and promotions and musical Bengali lines, the movie actually wooed the audience with the kind of suspense and thriller it had. The movie had the strong power of holding the intensity till the end and had one of the most impressive climaxes, we believe. The first look of the movie was not that appealing and went against the fact that ‘first impression is the last impression’. The movie not only whisked the multiplexes but created a buzz with tweets and updates like: 'Kahaani ho to aisi', 'A weak story well told', 'A very thrilling Kahaani', 'Satisfying Entertainment' etc, over the social media space! Thus making Kahani a surprising entry on the hit - list!

Last but not the least, one more surprise in this group was, Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor. The film was also a surprise because of various reasons. One, the film being backed by a new production house - John Abraham’s first home production JA Entertinment, second, Mumbai based VJ-turned-actor Ayushmann Khurana as the lead who played and sang the most popular song of the film and the season; 'Paani Da Rang'. Also, the film featured, small screen actor Yami Gautam and a popular television face Anu Kapoor. The movie was again like a ‘bolt from the blue’ and marked its name with a hit in terms of story, songs, acting, stars, concept and most importantly humor in the script. Apart from amusing and hilarious jokes, the film had a an emotional side to it too. Again, despite less promotion and marketing, the movie turned out to be shocking hit! Twitter and Facebook were buzzing with hilarious dialogues of the film. Overall, the movie turned out to be a pleasant but a surprising hit! | By Ankita Tanna [ankita(at)adgully.com] & Aanchal Kohli [aanchal(at)adgully.com]
