Advertising Gurus meet to decide the winners of the 11th Mirchi KAAN Awards

It was a day packed with radio spots – from the heart tugging to entertaining ones, from lively jingles to revolutionary campaigns. The jury comprising of India’s leading advertising folks met for the 11th Mirchi KAAN Awards to select the best radio spots of 2013

Every year Radio Mirchi, India’s leading radio network, honours excellence in radio advertising by acknowledging and applauding innovative campaigns which use radio as a medium. Mute the Clichés was the theme of the awards this year.

Commenting on the theme and the awards, Josy Paul, Chairman & Chief Creative Officer at BBDO India said, “Mute the Cliches is an apt theme for Mirchi KAAN Awards. You can see that programming and content on radio have moved far forward but advertising on radio seems to be stuck in the past. Many of the ads still resort to old tricks and Bollywood dialogues to get attention. 'Mute the Cliches' urges us to innovate and sets the mood and direction for the jury as well. Mirchi KAAN Awards is a lighthouse for the radio industry. It shows us where radio advertising is going. More importantly it shines the torch on the best work from across India including regions and languages. It is well organized with a sincere purpose to push the industry forward.”

The jury panel included creative personalities such as Josy Paul, Prathap Suthan, Agnello Dias, Anurag Agnihotri, Priti Nair, Amit Akali, Manohar Nayak, Tista Sen, Rekha Nigam, Prateek Bharadwaj & Tapas Sen.

Tista Sen, National Creative Director & Senior Vice President, JWT Mumbai said, “Radio has become a mainstream medium over the years. People need to give more attention to radio as a medium to advertise. I have judged Mirchi Kaan Awards three years in a row and absolutely love the fact that the creative leaders are sitting together and judging the entries.”

Agreeing with her, Prathap Suthan, Managing Partner & Chief Creative Officer at Bang In The Middle said, “Mirchi Kaan Awards is the cleanest awards show dedicated to radio advertising. This year we have received entries from other cities as well. We have heard some really creative regional radio spots.”

With nearly 250 entries from 36 agencies, the awards have taken a big leap this year. GG Jayanta, National Marketing Head, ENIL (Radio Mirchi), said, “Mirchi Kaan Awards has had a legacy of acknowledging and awarding creative masters of radio advertising. This year we have seen a surge in participants from smaller markets which is a good sign for the industry. We congratulate the winners and hope to see such creativity in the future as well.”

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented across 20 categories encompassing a range of corporate and retail advertising - from FMCG to real estate, from banking to educational institutes, from public service to apparel.

The winners will be felicitated at the awards ceremony on 17th April, 2014 at Blue Frog in Mumbai.
