Aishwarya Sakhuja: At her best being an Anchor
Aishwarya Sakhuja is best known for her role as ‘Toasty’ in ‘Saas Bina Sasural’, on Sony Entertainment Television which was her first show in the main lead role opposite actor Ravi Dubey. Recently she participated in ‘Welcome- Baazi Mehmaan nawazi Ki’ on channel Life Ok and also made her presence felt as an anchor on Star Plus’s just concluded show ‘Nach Baliye’ Shriman Vs. Shrimati. Now she is all set to host a new dance reality show ‘India’s Dancing Superstar’ for Star Plus.
In an exclusive interaction Aishwarya Sakhuja shared with us why she prefers anchoring over acting, the reach of the television as a medium and also spoke of her passion for dancing.
Talking about the new show India’s Dancing Superstar and what made her take up this offer as an anchor she enthusiastically said, “First of all, IDS is different from Nach Baliye Shriman vs. Shrimati and secondly it inspired me. But, yes I am thankful to Nach Baliye Shriman vs. Shrimati as I got my first anchoring opportunity through that show and understood responsibility through it.” Adding further she said ” I like my current work that’s anchoring but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like acting.” Nach Baliye Shriman vs. Shrimati was the first show that she hosted with Karan Wahi.
She is very much passionate about dancing but personally does not consider herself a good dancer. When asked about her favorite dancer, she was quick to reply, “ Govinda, is my favorite as he dances effortlessly and with superb expressions.”
If given a choice what would she prefer acting or hosting? To which she replied “I just want to be in front of the camera, be it acting, anchoring or dancing I am ready for it.” “Acting comes first for me but it depends on the kind of meaningful roles I get. I am doing anchoring as of now, but if I get a good opportunity why not acting,” she says.
Aishwarya feels that the show she is hosting currently is a different kind of reality show when compared to scripted reality shows that she used to anchor as a part of her start up jobs with known channels. Speaking of the challenges she faces while anchoring she said “It’s difficult to maintain a connection with audiences, handle situations firmly while also making them comfortable.”
For Aishwarya her stint in the television industry has been one of the most important phase in her life as it is this industry that gave her an opportunity to become an actress. When comparing television to Bollywood she is of the opinion that , “There is no competition between television and films as films have a different reach and so has TV but the reach of TV is really huge.”
“I want to work hard and I want to feel acknowledged. Opportunity and perseverance is important as first time when I came to Mumbai people said that I don’t have a camera friendly face and recently before I bagged the role of an anchor there were known people from the industry who said that I am not fit for anchoring. But I am right here to prove myself in front of everyone,” says Aishwarya who is determined to make it big in this industry.
