Ajay Vidyasagar joins Google as Regional Director

Ajay Vidyasagar has been appointed as Regional Director, Google and will be based in Singapore. Prior to this Vidyasagar was the Chief Operating Officer at Sun TV Network.

None of the officials were available for comment. Thought it is reportedly believed that Vidyasagar will head YouTube and video solutions at Google specifically in Japan & Asia Pacific including China and India. He will be reporting to Shailesh Rao, Managing Director, Media & Platforms -Japan & Asia Pacific, Google.

Before joining Sun TV Vidyasagar was president, content and new media at STAR India and was associated with the network for 14 years. Initially in 1996 he started with STAR India as part of its Chennai team. Later on he shifted to Mumbai, where he was part of the company's marketing team and later he was made the commercial director of Channel [V].

In 2000, as soon as STAR acquired Vijay TV, Vidyasagar moved South again to head of the group's regional business and was appointed as General Manager, Regional Channels, STAR India. In 2004, he moved back to Mumbai to head the marketing division of STAR India, as Executive Vice-President.

During his stint at STAR India he is credited with the launch of the second season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, after a gap of four years and with the launch of STAR One.
