He spent few years in Hyderabad were he pursued his Mass Communication course and thereafter got opportunity to work for various ad films, music videos and documentaries in Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh. While Kumar always desired to be a film maker, today, working under pressure is something he doesn’t like.

His upcoming project titled Desi Kattey revolves around the basic concept of friendship. “Aaryaan Saxena, writer based from Bareilly, narrated me this story. And I personally wanted to work on a film based on friendship and hence the story appealed to me. The film shows the story of two boys and their life journey, how they grew from a kata factory to young men”, he explained.

The film stars Jay Bhanushali and Akhil Kapur playing role of Gyani and Pali, who are orphans and work in gun/kata factory at the age of 11-12 years old and go on to become the finest shooters. With the entry of Sunil Shetty who plays the role of India shooting coach, story takes a twist. “With Sunil Shetty’s entry, the film follows action sequence as he feels that both the men have capabilities of becoming a national level shooter and represents India at the Olympics”, added Kumar. The film traces the journey of Jay Bhanushalo whose life transits from being a labourer to a shooter representing India at the Olympics whereas the other - Akhil Kapur joins underworld.

“The film is based on sports and action; however, I wanted to focus more on the bond between Gyani and Pali and their friendship”, shared Kumar.

The climax of the film is said to be very heart-warming, a situation where both the friends belong to different facets of life meet each other.

Kumar states that his films right from Delhi Heights, Jugaad, Zila Ghaziabad and now Desi Kattey, place him as a versatile director.

Desi Kattey also stars Sasha Agha, Tia Bajpai, Murli Sharma and it will hit theatres on 12th September 2014.

Speaking of how easy or challenging it is to work with newer talent than experienced actors, Kumar said, “It depends on the scripts we work on. So, for my story I wanted some new faces who can take the essence of the story forward. I had initially started out with Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar as lead roles in my mind. However, we understood that the story requires establishing characters and actors and hence we brought Jay and Akhil on board. Today no one can underestimate these young actors as they are well trained actors”.

He concluded by stating that, “The mission of the company is to encourage young, talented writers, actors, musicians, artists, designers; debutants in all areas of creativity”. Apart from Desi Kattey, the production house is also working on Juliet and Nabbu. [By Ranjana Gupta| Twitter: @RGrightsreserve]
