Amazon Prime leads OTT subscription, Hotstar, Netflix follow: MoMagic

MoMagic Technologies’ ‘You and Mobile’ Survey provides some key insights on mobile usage behaviour among Indians.

The respondents of the survey said that 78 per cent of the users use a mobile or a tablet for their online shopping, while only 21 per cent respondents use a desktop or a laptop.

When it comes to what products people buy the most online through mobile phone, 35 per cent mobile users said that they purchases mobile phones/ electronic goods through their mobile; 24 per cent bought apparels, followed by online food ordering at 13 per cent. Groceries and FMCG products were at 12 per cent, followed by other products at 10 per cent.

As far as in-app purchases are concerned, 30 per cent of the mobile users purchased mobile game credits in in-app purchases that they made through their mobile phones. 26 per cent of the respondents purchased online video, followed by e-commerce sites at 15 per cent. According to the survey, 10 per cent of the respondents purchased premium passes for dating/chatting apps.

Shedding light on video streaming content consumption, the survey revealed that 24 per cent of the respondents took monthly/ annually subscription of Amazon Prime Video. Hotstar is the second most subscribed OTT platform at 20 per cent, followed by Netflix at 15 per cent’ MX Player is placed fourth with 10 per cent and others at 7 per cent.

According to the survey, 27 per cent of the respondents have said that they are mostly engaged in gaming apps. Then social media and chatting apps at 19 per cent and 18 per cent, respectively, for the most engaged apps shown in the survey. Dating apps and e-commerce apps were at 9 per cent and 7 per cent, respectively.

The survey further reveals that 26 per cent of respondents said that mobile game was the mobile platform that they spent maximum money on, followed by social media and online food ordering at 21 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively.
