Amazon Prime Video bringing to the audiences a bold new take on Cinderella

With time bringing a paradigm shift, a huge change can be seen in the narrative and means by which stories are being told. Movies today are focusing on characters with a different lens, no more do we see stories where princess' wait for their Prince Charming to whimsically appear and put an end to their misery.

It’s the need of the hour to make such films that send out a message of women empowerment. For instance, Amazon Prime Video's upcoming Cinderella starring Camila Cabello is a familiar classic with a modern take where the princess is a rebel dreamer who encourages girls to write their own story, she will be chasing her dreams instead of Prince Charming.

The recently unveiled trailer has travelled miles and straight into the audiences hearts, they're really liking how the makers have envisioned the princess with a modern mindset and perseveres to realise her big dreams. There's been a worldwide chatter about the lovely storyline and audiences cannot wait to watch the complete glimpse of this unusual adaptation.

Disney in the recent past has presented movies that have seen women at the very centre and taking charge of their own self and situations. In Mulan, a fearless young woman risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known, Moana, embarks on a journey to return the heart of goddess Te Fitti from Maui, a demigod, after the plants and the fish on her island start dying due to a blight and Brave in which Merida, an independent archer, disobeys an ancient custom which unleashes a dark force. After meeting an elderly witch, as she journeys to reverse the curse, she discovers the real meaning of bravery.

Written for the screen and directed by Kay Cannon with covers of songs written by some of the top-selling musical artists of all time, Cinderella has an all-star cast that includes Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, with Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan.

Things are changing and it’s now time for all the filmmakers— fictional or otherwise to recouperate and think if a princess/ damsel in distress really needs a prince to save her? Let us know your take on this.

Catch the fairytale you thought you knew, Amazon Prime Video's Cinderella will premiere on September 3.
