Amit Khare to begin his role as secretary of MIB

Amit Khare joins the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as secretary. This change of hands in the position comes after the retirement of secretary Narendra Kumar Sinha. Khare has joined MIB in tumultuous times when decisive action and cooperation with other sectors like the regulator TRAI who have recommended several polices that need to be acted upon and would be required to rein in the various issues that the MIB is grappling with.

This is the second high profile appointment to be made in the MIB after head Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore took responsibility of the ministry. These two must work together to implement policy changes to the multi-billion dollar sectors of television, radio and advertising as well as repair relationships with Prasar Bharti, work in conjunction with the Department of Space to relax satellite permissions, open up more screens in the film sector, and regulation of DTH licensing norms and online content.

Amit Khare has 33 years of experience. He was part of the 1985 batch of Indian Administrative Service officers and was posted at a senior level in Jharkhand before he was nominated as MIB secretary.
