Android ruling: Google's request for stay denied

According to media reports, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) rejected Google's motion for an interim stay on a Competition Commission of India (CCI) decision ordering the tech giant to alter how it treats its Android platform on Wednesday. Additionally, the tribunal ordered the search engine giant to deposit 10% of the Rs 1,337.76 crore fine levied by the CCI.
The NCLAT refused to provide a temporary reprieve from the CCI penalty and stated that it will make a decision post hearing from all parties. The tribunal gave CCI notifications and ordered that the case  to be scheduled for hearing on February 13.
According to media reports, the two-member tribunal panel stated that there was "no need to make any interim decision at this time considering the extensive size of the appeal."
Senior attorney Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared on behalf of Google, claimed that the CCI's judgement will compel the corporation to alter its business model and hurt consumer interests. The tribunal, however, rejected this defence.
