Animal Planet is set to takes viewers into the world of the elephants

Long ago, our ancestors lived close to nature and worshipped the good and evil spirits they recognised in the animals and plants around them.   Perhaps it was the character of the large but gentle elephant, clever and hard-working, that inspired the legends in various cultures around the world.  Charismatic, intelligent and with emotions that mirror the human world, elephants are truly astounding animals.   They show many similarities to humans – life span, social structure, wisdom of age and emotional bonds.

All this October, Animal Planet’s programming special GAJ RAAJ takes viewers into the world of the elephants to witness their social behaviour, their significance to society, their habitats, and the threats they face. From Asian elephants to their African cousins in Kenya and Pygmy elephants of Borneo, find out about these mammoth animals in GAJ RAAJ, every night at 8 pm starting October 01.

Filmed in breath-taking landscapes around the world, this unique month-long programming initiative unveils the intimate lives of these magnanimous mammoths like never before.  Get to know these gentle giants and those who have made it their life’s mission to conserve the elephants’ dwindling population, only on Animal Planet.

GAJ RAAJ begins on October 01 with the episode THE TWILIGHT OF THE GIANTS which follows the evolution of elephants - how they appeared on the earth about 15 million years ago, long before human beings emerged as a species and have spread all over the globe, even to the very limits of the land of perpetual ice.

In SECRET LIFE OF ANIMALS, watch some of the most poignant scenes of elephant behaviour captured ever on camera. The story delves into the social life of the mammal and the intimate bond between a mother and her two calves.

SPY IN THE HERD introduces viewers to special cameras like Dungcam, Bouldercam, Poopcam and Plopcam that not only capture extraordinary views and sound, but are also used as a story-telling device. Using these radical new techniques, the character-cameras capture each intimate and dramatic moment of elephant life from extraordinary proximity – even from under the huge beasts as they fight or immersed in mud as the elephants bathe.

Animal Planet cameras will follow the astonishing, intimate stories of individual elephants as these beautiful giants raise their families, forge alliances and fight for survival.
