Are Sony, Viacom18 close to wrapping up merger deal?

If industry buzz is to be believed, Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) and Viacom18 are close to wrapping up the merger agreement between the two media organisations. As per some media reports, the deal could be closed as early as the coming week.

As reported earlier, the merger deal between Sony Pictures Network and Viacom18 is in its final stages.

Industry sources indicate that Sony will hold a majority stake in the new merged entity, while the Reliance-Viacom owned Viacom18 will retain the remaining stake. The merger deal includes the complete entertainment portfolio.

The new merged entity is expected to bring together SPNI, Viacom18 and Reliance’s Jio Studios, and will have a formidable bouquet of 77 TV channels, two OTT platforms – Voot and SonyLIV, besides film studios and digital content studios.
