Descended from a long line of criminal masterminds, 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl II, played by Ferdia Shaw, finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance. Artemis Fowl, a peculiar young criminal prodigy , although still a child of age 12,  reflects the maturity and knowledge of an adult. The character of Artemis depicts sheer brilliance, not just for a child, but for any age group or species, on, under, above and beyond earth. Artemis is the mastermind behind all the adventures that the movie unravels, owing to his incredible imagination, unparalleled knowledge level and wondrous vocabulary. He is a genius child whose pass-times revolve solely around increasing his intelligence and plotting new schemes. The movie marvellously describes the journey of this prodigy into a criminal fairy world.

Directed by five-time Academy award nominee Kenneth BranaghArtemis Fowl features a stellar star cast, including Academy Award winner Dame Judi DenchJosh GadColin Farrell. The movie also marks the debut for young talented artists, Ferdia Shaw and Lara Mcdonnell in the lead roles; and features Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie in key character portrayals.

Kenneth Branagh says, “The goal is to give the audience the best, almost visceral time they can have. Though audiences familiar with the book will see much that they love and recognize, there are still a few twists and turns to keep them on their toes in the story, some of which they might not expect.”

Dame Judi Dench, who portrays the character of Commander Root said, “Commander Root is quite military and androgynous. If you’re head of the leprechauns, just masculine or just feminine wouldn’t do it. She is a leader and doesn’t care whether she’s liked or not.” The actress was not intimidated by the prospect of playing an 800-year-old man, in fact she relished the opportunity. “I thought, why not, I’ll have a go with it,” Dench laughs. “It’s not every day you’re asked to play an 800-year-old man!”
