BARC Ratings Week 40: Star Plus leads; steep decline for Star Utsav

BARC ratings for Week 40 (October 1-7) of 2016 [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 4+ Individuals] saw Star Plus maintain its numero uno position amongst Hindi GECs. Star Utsav, however, slid to the seventh spot from No. 4 last week.

After witnessing gains in its gross viewership last week, Star Plus saw a decline in Week 40 even as it maintained its lead amongst the Hindi GECs. The channel’s gross viewership declined from 690,400 in Week 39 to 677,946 this week. ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’ on Star Plus remained in the third spot this week, garnering 9,774 Impressions (000s). Meanwhile, ‘Yeh Hain Mohabbatein’ moved out of the list of top 5 shows on Hindi GECs.

Colors continued at the No. 2 spot in Week 40 as well, witnessing a jump in its gross viewership to 582,912 from 544,831 recorded last week. Its show, ‘Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki’, made a re-entry in the list of top 5 shows on Hindi GECs at No. 4 this week, garnering 9,549 Impressions (000s).

Zee TV remained firm at No. 3 in Week 40. However, the channel witnessed further decline in its gross viewership – from 522,878 in Week 39 to 499,579 recorded this week. Two of its shows – ‘Brahmarakshas - Jaag Utha Shaitan’ and ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ – continued to show strong performance among the Hindi GEC shows in Rural+Urban. ‘Brahmarakshas - Jaag Utha Shaitan’ held on to its lead in Week 40, garnering 10,926 Impressions (000s), while ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ continued in the second spot with 10,365 Impressions (000s).

Zee Anmol climbed up a notch to No. 4 this week, recording a gross viewership of 497,549, a jump from 439,027 recorded in Week 39.

Life OK, too, climbed up a notch from No. 6 in Week 39 to No. 5 this week. However, the channel witnessed a decline in its gross viewership from 430,236 recorded last week to 428,990 in Week 40.

Sony Entertainment Television improved its ranking by a notch at No. 6, up from No. 7 in Week 39. The channel saw a marginal decline in its gross viewership – from 424,918 last week to 423,671 recorded this week. Sony’s weekend show, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, which had made a re-entry to the list of most watched shows on Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban at No. 4 last week, slipped a notch to be placed at the fifth spot this week. The show garnered 9,414 Impressions (000s).

Star Utsav, on the other hand, slid to the seventh spot in Week 40 from No. 4 last week. The channel garnered gross viewership of 409,577, a decline from 457,548 recorded in Week 39.

Sony SAB saw further gains this week, climbing up a notch to No. 8. The channel witnessed an increase in its gross viewership to 378,751 from 371,912 recorded in Week 39.
