BARC Wk 12: Aaj Tak surges ahead of Hindi GECs in terms of reach

News consumption has seen a tremendous spike as COVID-19 crisis hits the country hard. According to the BARC-Nielsen study for Week 11, the News genre saw a 57 per cent growth in viewership and garnered a 334 per cent growth in daily average reach. This growth spike continued in Week 12 as well, with news channel viewership surpassing even those of Hindi GECs. 

The top three channels leading in terms of cumulative reach in Week 12 are news channels. Aaj Tak reported the highest cumulative reach of 24 crore, as per BARC India data (2+, Wk-12’20). The channel had garnered 216,024 gross impressions (000) in Week 11 and led the Hindi News genre. 

In Week 12, ABP News follows with a cumulative reach of 22 crore. The channel was placed in the fifth position among Hindi News channels in Week 11, recording gross impressions (000) of 130,035. 

Meanwhile, Republic Bharat is placed third with a cumulative reach of 20 crore n Week 12. 

Aaj Tak’s coverage of Janta Curfew/ Coronavirus/ lockdown (India /2+, Weekly numbers) saw weekly gross impressions of 66.3 crore. The channel’s weekly viewing stood at 19,896,832 minutes.
