BARC Wk 15: IPL steals GECs’ thunder, 9 of the top 10 channels see decline

Most of the top 10 Hindi GECs, with the exception of Rishtey, saw decline in gross viewership in this IPL season as per BARC ratings for Week 15 of 2018 (April 7-13) [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals]. The see-saw battle for the No. 1 spot between Zee Anmol and Star Bharat continues, with the former claiming this spot in Week 15. Colors slid to its lowest rank of No. 8 in Rural+Urban ever since BARC came into being. 

This week, Zee Anmol climbed up a notch to be back in the numero uno spot, overtaking Star Bharat. However, the channel saw a further decline in its gross viewership in Week 15 – from 710,197 recorded last week to 676,300 this week. Re-run of the hit show, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, continued to top the list of most watched shows on Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban with 10,892 (000) Impressions. 

Star Bharat, on the other hand, slid a notch to No. 2 this week, garnering a gross viewership of 669,207, a further decline from 731,561 recorded in Week 14. It’s show, ‘Kya Haal Mr Paanchal’, was the fourth most watched show on Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban with 8,187 (000) Impressions. 

Sony Pal remained unchanged in the third spot in Week 15, recording a gross viewership of 649,574, a decline from 675,060 recorded last week. Placed at No. 5, the channel’s long-running show, ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Charhma’, was a tad behind Star Bharat’s ‘Kya Haal Mr Paanchal’, with 8,180 (000) Impressions. 

Star Utsav continued in the fourth spot in Week 15 as well, recording a gross viewership of 568,047, a further decline from 603,378 recorded last week. 

Zee TV, too, continued in the fifth spot this week with a gross viewership of 516,099, a decline from 534,938 recorded in Week 14. ‘Kumkum Bhagya/ Kundali Bhagya - 5 Dino Ka Ma’ was placed second in the list of most watched shows with 9,694 (000) Impressions. Zee TV’s show, ‘Ishq Subhan Allah’, which premiered on March 14, 2018 and is the love story of a Muslim couple with different personalities, made it to the list of most watched shows for the first time in the third spot with 8,230 (000) Impressions. 

Star Plus, which had climbed up a couple of notches to the sixth spot in Week 14, continued in this position this week as well, garnering a gross viewership of 465,655, a decline from 501,433 recorded last week. 

On the other hand, Rishtey saw gains in Week 15 as well, as the channel climbed up a notch to the seventh spot, recording a gross viewership of 461,718, compared to 430,206 recorded in Week 14. 

Colors, which had slipped a couple of notches to No. 7 in Week 14, further slipped a notch this week to the eighth spot, the lowest rank that the channel has seen ever since BARC came into being. The channel garnered a gross viewership of 451,207 in Week 15, a further decline from 491,626 recorded last week. 

Sony Entertainment Television and Sony SAB continued in their respective positions of No. 9 and No. 10 in Week 15. Sony Entertainment Television garnered a gross viewership of 341,584, compared to 379,412 recorded last week. Meanwhile, Sony SAB recorded a gross viewership of 341,285, a further decline from 376,891 recorded last week.
