BARC Wk 16: 2019 Elections, IPL take a toll on Hindi GECs’ viewership

BARC India data for Week 16 (Saturday, April 13 to Friday, April 19) of 2019 [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals], there was no change in the rankings of the top 10 Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban. Faced by the twin events of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections and IPL 2019, eight of the 10 top Hindi GECs saw decline in their gross viewership this week. 

Dangal TV has seen a dip in its gross viewership to 990,660 in Week 16 from 1,081,541 recorded last week, even as the channel continues to top the Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban. 

Big Magic’s gross viewership has also seen a marginal dip this week to 729,166, from 738,439 recorded in Week 15. The channel remained unchanged at No. 2. 

With a gross viewership of 646,662, Star Plus continued at No. 3 in Week 16. The channel had garnered a gross viewership of 642,422 last week. 

Continuing in the fourth spot, Zee TV saw a slight increase in its gross viewership at 539,891 in Week 16, compared to 537,951 recorded last week. 

Colors, which had climbed up a notch to the fifth spot last week, remained in this position in Week 16 as well. The channel saw a decline in its gross viewership at 498,378, as against 532,487 recorded in Week 15. 

There was no change in the ranking of Sony Entertainment Television, which continued at No. 6 in Week 16, garnering a gross viewership of 469,575, a decline from 503,063 recorded last week. 

There was no change in the rankings of Sony SAB, Star Bharat, &TV and Sony Pal, which continued at No. 7, No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, in Week 16. Sony SAB garnered a gross viewership of 392,182, as against 414,123 recorded in Week 15. On the other hand, Star Bharat saw an increase in its gross viewership for this week, which stood at 292,314, compared to 289,507 recorded last week. &TV recorded a gross viewership of 144,751, a decline from 154,727 recorded in Week 15. Sony Pal, which had entered the top 10 list at No. 10 in Week 15, continued in this position this week as well, garnering a gross viewership of 116,341, a decline from 124,185 recorded last week. 

Top 5 shows of Week 15 

Two of Dangal TV’s shows continued to be the most watched in Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban in Week 16 as well. This week, ‘Ramayan’, was back in the numero uno spot among shows with 10,597 Impressions (000s). Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ fared well this week, climbing up to the second spot with 10,124 Impressions (000s). 

Dangal TV’s mythological show ‘Mahima Shanidev Ki’, which had topped the list of most watched shows last week, slipped to the third spot in Week 16 with 9,830 Impressions (000s). 

Zee TV’s ‘Kundali Bhagya’, the spin-off show of the long-running ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, was placed in the fourth spot with 9,103 Impressions (000s). 

Colors’ supernatural/ fantasy show, ‘Naagin 3’, continued in the fifth spot with 8,404 (000) Impressions.
