BARC Wk 25: Zee TV reaches No. 2 in R+U; Re-entry of Taarak Mehta

BARC India data for Week 25 (Saturday, June 15 to Friday, June 21) of 2019 [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals], saw some upheavals in among the top 5 channels as Zee TV gained further grounds, reaching the second spot on the back of the strong performance of three of its top shows. 

This week, Dangal TV saw a decline in its gross viewership to 786,055, from 804,706 recorded in Week 24. The channel, however, held on to its numero uno status. 

Zee TV’s steady climb continued in Week 25 as well as the channel climbed up a further notch to reach the No. 2 spot. The channel garnered a gross viewership of 670,529, a further increase from 653,094 recorded last week. 

After slipping a notch last week, Star Plus saw gains in Week 25, climbing up a notch back to the third spot, witnessing a jump in its gross viewership to 661,737, from 607,445 recorded last week. 

On the other hand, Big Magic continued to see decline as the channel slipped a couple of notches to the fourth spot this week, which took its gross viewership further down to 565,180, from 689,309 recorded in Week 24. 

Sony SAB remained unchanged at No. 5 in Week 25, garnering a gross viewership of 525,869, a decline from 538,916 recorded last week. 

There was no change in Colors’ position as well, which continued to be placed in the sixth spot this week, garnering a gross viewership of 498,988, a further decline from 505,928 recorded in Week 24. 

There was no change in the rankings of Sony Entertainment Television, Star Bharat, and Sony Pal as well, as the channels continued at No. 7, No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, in Week 25. 

With gross viewership of 465,016, Sony Entertainment Television witnessed a marginal increase in its gross viewership, compared to 464,396 recorded last week. Placed at No. 8, Star Bharat, however, saw a decline in its gross viewership to 301,584, from 306,317 recorded last week. Decline continued for Sony Pal as the channel’s gross viewership dipped to 172,730, from 182,450 recorded last week. 

Meanwhile, Star Utsav moved out of the Top 10 list in Week 25 and was replaced by &TV, which made its re-entry at No. 10. The channel garnered a gross viewership of 137,711. 

Top 5 shows of Week 25 

Zee TV’s shows continued to dominate the top 5 shows on Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban. This week, ‘Kundali Bhagya’, the spin-off show of ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, rose a notch to the top spot with 12,365 (000) Impressions. On the other hand, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ slipped a notch to No. 2 with 10,474 (000) Impressions. ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’, another show from the Zee TV stable, was placed in the fourth spot with 9,399 (000) Impressions. 

Star Plus’ fiction show, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, climbed up a couple of notches to the third spot with 9,547 (000) Impressions. 

Sony SAB’s long running sitcom, ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’, made its entry in the list of most watched shows at No. 5 this week with 7,827 (000) Impressions. This is the first time that this show has featured among the top 5 shows after the implementation of TRAI’s new tariff regime.
