BARC Wk 35: Republic Bharat’s market share reaches 19.91%

Week 35 (Saturday, 29th August 2020 to Friday, 4th September 2020) didn’t see much upheaval in the News genre. Among the Top 5 Hindi News channels, Republic Bharat strengthened its position. TV9 Bharatvarsh and News18 India recorded gains too, as per BARC data (All India (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals).

Placed in the numero uno spot, Republic Bharat further consolidated its position in Week 35, witnessing a gross viewership of 287,062(000), a slight increase from 285,200(000) recorded last week. The channel saw a market share of 19.91 per cent (BARC | All Time Band | All Days | NCCS ABC M 15+ | HSM | Wk 35 ’20).

However, Aaj Tak reported a degrowth this week, with its gross viewership at 198,245(000), compared to 234,191(000) recorded in Week 34. The channel’s market share stood at 13.25 per cent.

Meanwhile, after seeing a decline last week, TV9 Bharatvarsh saw gains in Week 35. The channel climbed up a notch to the third spot and garnered a gross viewership of 168,764(000), an increase from 148,837(000) recorded in Week 34. TV9 Bharatvarsh’s market share was reported at 11.77 per cent.

India TV slipped a notch to be placed in the fourth spot this week, garnering a gross viewership of 165,444(000), a decline from 179,488(000) recorded last week. The channel’s market share was a tad behind TV9 Bharatvarsh’s at 11.19 per cent.

With a market share of 9.39 per cent, News18 India remained unchanged at No. 5 in Week 35 as well. The channel, too, saw a slight increase in its gross viewership – from 132,865(000) in Week 34 to 134,583(000) recorded this week.

Republic TV saw a decline in its gross viewership in Week 35, even as the channel retained its No. 1 spot. The channel garnered a gross viewership of 6,563(000), as against 7,728(000) recorded last week.

Remaining unchanged at No. 2, Times Now, too, saw a decline in its gross viewership – from 2,777(000) in Week 34 to 2,194(000) this week. CNN News18, which had climbed up a notch to the third spot last week, also saw a decline in its gross viewership this week at 1,505(000), from 1,755(000) recorded in Week 34.

Meanwhile, DD India, which had slid a couple of notches to the fifth spot in Week 34, climbed up a notch to No. 4 this week, registering a gross viewership of 1,405(000), an increase from 1,255(000) recorded last week.

On the other hand, India Today Television, which had climbed up a notch to the fourth spot last week, slid back a notch to be placed at No. 4 in Week 35. However, the channel saw a slight increase in its gross viewership at 1,381(000), compared to 1,334(000) recorded last week.
