BARC Wk 40: Colors climbs up to second spot in Pay Platform

BARC India data for Week 40 (Saturday, September 28 to Friday, October 4) of 2019 shows Colors put up a strong show on Pay Platform, where the channel rose to claim the second spot [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals]. In Free Platform, a new channel, Manoranjan Grand, entered the rankings for the first time at No. 3. 

All Platform 

Dangal TV continues to dominate with a gross viewership of 1,074,505 in Week 40, a further increase from 1,052,684 recorded last week. On the other hand, while Star Plus retained its second position, the channel witnessed a decline in its gross viewership this week to 668,338, from 718,218 recorded in Week 39. 

After months of hovering in the middle ranks, Colors climbed up three notches to the third spot in Week 40, registering a gross viewership of 644,042, as against 544,562 recorded last week. 

Sony Entertainment Television (SET), Zee TV and Sony SAB slipped one notch each to be placed at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, this week, with all three channels seeing a decline in their gross viewership. SET saw a gross viewership of 630,908, as compared to 682,032 recorded in Week 39. Zee TV recorded a gross viewership of 624,751, as against 651,060 recorded last week; and Sony SAB’s gross viewership stood at 590,517, compared to 610,566 recorded in Week 39. 

Big Magic and Star Bharat followed at the 7th and 8th positions in Week 40, seeing no changing in their rankings from last week. Both the channel saw an increase in their gross viewership this week. While Big Magic’s gross viewership grew to 450,215 from 424,749 last week, Star Bharat saw an increase to 334,731 from 307,382 last week. 

Sony Pal, which was placed at No. 10 in Week 39, climbed up one notch to the 9th spot this week, but saw a decline in its gross viewership 145,137, from 154,613 recorded last week. 

Star Utsav, which didn’t feature among the top 10 channels in Week 39, was placed at No. 10 this week, garnering a gross viewership of 144.692. 

Pay Platform 

In the pay platform, too, Star Plus saw a decline in its gross viewership in Week 40, even though the channel held on to its numero uno position. Star Plus garnered a gross viewership of 666,516, as against 716,540 recorded last week. 

Colors put up a strong show, climbing up to the second position this week, from No. 5 last week. The channel’s gross viewership grew to 641,508, from 542,997 recorded in Week 39. 

In pay platform, too, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), Zee TV and Sony SAB slipped one notch each to be placed at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, this week, with all three channels seeing a decline in their gross viewership. SET recorded a gross viewership of 628,523 (Week 39 – 679,190); Zee TV garnered a gross viewership of 623,834 (Week 39 – 650,130); and Sony SAB witnessed a gross viewership of 587,973 (Week 39 – 607,708). 

There was no change in the rankings of Star Bharat and Dangal TV, which continued at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively in Week 40. Both the channels saw growth in their gross viewership. Star Bharat’s gross viewership grew to 333,792, from 306,462 recorded last week; while Dangal TV reported a gross viewership of 258,675, up from 247,565 recorded last week. 

Star Utsav climbed up a couple of notches to the 8th spot this week, garnering a gross viewership of 144,379, a slight increase from 142,400 recorded in Week 39. 

Sony Pal remained unchanged at No. 9, reporting a gross viewership of 144,375, a decline from 154,010 recorded last week. 

On the other hand, &TV slipped a couple of notches to the 10th spot, garnering a gross viewership of 132,014, a decline from 156,524 recorded in Week 39.
