BARC Wk 41: No upheaval seen in Hindi GEC space

BARC India data for Week 41 (Saturday, October 5 to Friday, October 11) of 2019 shows seven of the top 10 Hindi GECs see decline in their gross viewership [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals]. After putting up a strong show in Week 40, Colors slid to the sixth spot this week. 

All Platform 

Dangal TV remained in the numero uno position in Week 41, albeit with a decline in its gross viewership to 1,030,043 from 1,074,505 recorded last week. There was no change in the ranking of Star Plus as well, as the channel continued at No. 2, garnering a gross viewership of 636,896, a further decline from 668,338 recorded in Week 40. 

Zee TV, which had slipped to the fifth spot last week, climbed up a couple of notches to be placed at No. 3 in Week 41. The channel saw an increase in its gross viewership to 630,909 from 624,751 recorded in Week 40. Sony Entertainment Television (SET) remained unchanged at No. 4, garnering a gross viewership of 624,019, a decline from 630,908 recorded last week. Sony SAB climbed up a notch to the fifth spot with a gross viewership of 581,660 in Week 41, as against 590,517 recorded last week. 

On the other hand, Colors which had climbed up three notches to the third spot in Week 40, slipped back to the sixth spot this week. The channel also saw a steep fall in its gross viewership to 522,099 from 644,042 last week. 

There was no change in the rankings of Big Magic, Star Bharat, Sony Pal and Star Utsav, which continued at No. 7, No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. 

While Big Magic’s gross viewership further grew to 458,765 from 450,215 last week, Star Bharat saw a decline to 317,854 from 334,731 last week. 

Sony Pal saw an increase in its gross viewership to 148,241 from 145,137 recorded last week, while Star Utsav saw a decline in its gross viewership – from 144,692 in Week 40 to 140,722 this week.

Pay Platform 

In the pay platform, too, Star Plus saw a decline in its gross viewership in Week 41, even though the channel held on to its numero uno position. Star Plus garnered a gross viewership of 634,958, a further decline from 666,516 recorded last week. 

Zee TV climbed up a couple of notches to the second spot this week, garnering a gross viewership of 629,557, an increase from 623,834 recorded in Week 40. Meanwhile, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) remained unchanged at No. 3 this week, witnessing a gross viewership of 622,404, as against 628,523 recorded in Week 40. Sony SAB moved up a notch to the fourth spot with a gross viewership of 578,993, a further decline from 587,973 recorded last week. 

Colors, which had climbed up to the second position in Week 40, was back at No. 5 this week. The channel saw a drop in its gross viewership to 520,433 from 641,508 recorded last week. 

There was no change in the rankings of Star Bharat and Dangal TV in Week 41 as well, which continued at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. However, both the channels saw decline in their gross viewership. Star Bharat’s gross viewership declined to 316,949, from 333,792 recorded last week; while Dangal TV reported a gross viewership of 245,898, as against 258,675 recorded last week.

Sony Pal climbed up a notch to the eighth spot this week, reporting a gross viewership of 147,396, a slight increase from 144,375 recorded in Week 40. On the other hand, Star Utsav slipped a notch to No. 9 this week, garnering a gross viewership of 140,503, a decline from 144,379 recorded last week. 

&TV remained unchanged at the 10th spot, garnering a gross viewership of 137,085, an increase from 132,014 recorded in Week 40.
