BARC Wk 44: Sony SAB holds on to its numero uno spot on pay platform

BARC India data for Week 44 (Saturday, October 26 to Friday, November 1) of 2019 shows 6 of the Top 10 Hindi GECs register decline in their gross viewership [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals] on all platform. Sony SAB, which rose to claim the top spot on pay platform, retained this position this week as well. 

All Platform 

Continuing at No. 1, Dangal TV, however, saw a decline in its gross viewership in Week 44 to 994,042 from 1,049,367 recorded last week. Sony SAB, which climbed up to the second spot in Week 43, remained in this position this week as well. The channel, too, saw a decline in its gross viewership to 645,666 from 678,505 recorded last week. 

Star Plus, which had slid a couple of notches to No. 4 last week, climbed up to the third spot in Week 44, garnering a gross viewership of 600,835, which is less than 640,243 recorded last week. 

Meanwhile, Zee TV slid a notch to No. 4 this week with a gross viewership of 571,853 from 662,192 recorded in Week 43. 

Sony Entertainment Television remained unchanged at No. 5 in Week 44, but saw a decline in its gross viewership – from 613,960 last week to 567,723 recorded this week. 

Colors continued at the sixth spot this week as well, witnessing a further decline in its gross viewership to 518,899, compared to 543,144 recorded in Week 43. 

There was no change in the rankings of Big Magic, Star Bharat and Colors Rishtey in Week 44, which continued at No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9, respectively. All three channels saw growth in their gross viewership. While Big Magic’s gross viewership further grew to 491,392 from 477,281; Star Bharat saw a hike to 295,487 from 293,294; and Colors Rishtey saw an increase to 183,952 from 173,514. 

The week, Sony Pal nudged out Star Utsav from the tenth spot. The channel recorded a gross viewership of 162,397. In Week 42, Sony Pal’s gross viewership had declined to 147,419.

Pay Platform 

Week 44 saw Sony SAB retain its numero uno position that it had gained in Week 43. However, the channel witnessed a decline in its gross viewership to 641,127 from 674,837 recorded last week. Star Plus climbed up a notch to the second spot, garnering a gross viewership of 599,711, a decline from 638,852 recorded in Week 43. 

On the other hand, Zee TV slipped a notch to No. 3 with a gross viewership of 570,967, a decline from 660,866. Meanwhile, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) remained unchanged at No. 4. The channel, too, saw a decline in its gross viewership to 566,367, from 612,438 recorded last week. 

There was no change in the position of Colors, Star Bharat, Dangal TV and Colors Rishtey, as well, which continued at No. 5, No. 6, No.7 and No. 8, respectively. With a gross viewership of 517,346, Colors saw a decline from 541,843 recorded last week. Star Bharat, too, saw a marginal decline in its gross viewership – from 292,655 in Week 43 to 294,973 this week. It was decline for Dangal TV as well – from 224,239 last week to 211,216. On the other hand, Colors Rishtey saw gains in its gross viewership, which was up at 182,936 in Week 44 from 173,181.

Sony Pal and Star Utsav swapped places in Week 44 on pay platform. Sony Pal climbed up a notch to the ninth spot, garnering a gross viewership from 160,376, compared to 145,745 recorded last week. Meanwhile, Star Utsav, which slipped a notch to No. 10 saw a decline in its gross viewership to 149,791, from 159,421 recorded last week.
