BBC.Com unveils enhanced Asia business news

BBC.com, the international version of the BBC's website has today launched a new business section, designed for audiences interested in Asian business stories www.bbc.com/asiabusiness. The Asia Business Index will deliver 24hr Asia-focused business news coverage, exploring the impact of global and pan-regional business issues across the region. Editorial content will also interpret how business issues in the region affect the global economy.

BBC.com has recruited a team of BBC journalists based in both Asia and the UK to deliver the new Asia Business Index. Editor Ben Richardson and his team will be based in Singapore, using the BBC network of journalists across Asia to provide localised knowledge from experts on the ground. The new section will offer a new route for advertisers seeking to reach BBC.com's upscale audience of 54m monthly visitors, that includes 8.3m in Asia Pacific. Finnair are launch partners for bbc.com/asiabusiness.

Jeremy Hillman the BBC's Business and Economics Editor, who will oversee all content on BBC.com's Asia Business Index, added: "There's no question that the biggest and most important story in the world of business is the rapid growth of Asian economies. As an international news organisation it's vital that we can call upon the best local knowledge for our audiences around the world. We'll be adding depth to our existing content and shining a light on some of the more unusual and untold stories, away from the spread sheets and stock market floors. The human face of business in Asia, the entrepreneurs, culture and powershift to the region will all underpin a lot of our thinking editorially."

Commented Chris Davies, Commercial Director BBC.com: "A proper grasp of global economic issues has become essential for everyone in recent years, not just those who work in finance. At bbc.com/asiabusiness we're aiming to deliver business news from across Asia that explains local and universal trends. We're proud that BBC.com is among the largest news sites in Asia Pacific and we're committed to investing in the site for our audiences across the region."

Antti Nieminen, Director, Marketing Innovations Finnair said: "Asia is a critical region in the world of business. Nobody covers business in Asia like the BBC and Finnair is very proud to be a part of this very exciting launch

In addition to text stories bbc.com/asiabusiness will feature a range of bespoke video packages and graphics, created exclusively for the web. These are expected to form a key part of the new section and will enable the BBC team to bring more stories to life, wherever they are taking place.

BBC.com introduced its first local edition for North America in 2010 and later that same year launched BBC.com/travel in partnership with Lonely Planet. BBC.com is managed by the BBC's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, and BBC Global News.
