BBC Cymru Wales and Media Cymru have today announced a new funding round for Wales-based production companies to research, develop and commission innovation-driven content that delights audiences across Wales and the whole of the UK.

Nick Andrews, BBC Wales’ Head of Content Commissioning explained that innovation needs to be at the heart of the content: “Innovation is key. This could mean using new technology, developing new ways of working or a fresh collaboration between two parties, or it could be an innovative new format.

“We’re delighted to be working with Media Cymru on this new fund and I can’t wait to see the innovation ideas that come through.”

Professor Justin Lewis, Director of Media Cymru, says: “The BBC Content Innovation Fund is one of the first Media Cymru projects to go live and typifies our ambition to embed research, development and innovation at the core of media production in Wales.

“This fund will enable independent production companies, to dedicate time and resource to exploring new formats, methods and delivery of content. The aim is for this innovation to then feed into content commissioning, so that we have great programming with innovation built into it.

“We can’t wait to see what ideas are out there and look forward to reading your applications!”

To launch the new innovation fund, Nick Andrews will host an online event on Wednesday 12 of October at 10am. Wales-based production companies are invited to join the event and can contact sophie.yip@bbc.co.uk for more information.
