BBC World News and BBC.com commission third series of Horizons

BBC World News and BBC.com have announced that Horizons will be returning for a third season, beginning on 6thApril. Twofour has again been commissioned to produce the series, sponsored by DuPont, which will track down the innovations and technologies that could change the way we live and work in the coming decades.

Adam Shaw will return as lead presenter on the weekly programme and be supported by a team of reporters from around the world, bringing in-depth country knowledge to each 30minute programme.

The third series of Horizons will continue the search for the ideas and people tackling some of the big challenges the planet faces. This season, Adam Shaw and his team will report from a wide range of countries, including India, China, Japan, South America, the United States and Europe.

Adam starts the series at NASA’s Ames Research Centre in California where he talks to Professor Mason Peck, NASA’s Chief Technology Officer, and discover show scientific innovations in outer space are helping to improve health, fitness and well-being here on earth.  In other episodes, Adam finds out about a new technique being used to harvest solar energy using a process similar to that used by living plants, and he meets the creators of AGNES, a suit, which replicates the dexterity and strength of a person in their mid-70s, which is being used to develop techniques and technologies for helping the elderly.

The series will also include interviews with Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, Daniel Libeskind, the renowned architect, and Sir Harold Kroto, Nobel Laureate for Chemistry on Renewable Energy.
