BCCI looks for a windfall as bids for media rights reach Rs 6,032.50 cr on Day 2

Day 2 of the e-auction of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) media rights saw further intensification in the bidding process amongst the trio of Star India, Sony Pictures Network India and Reliance Jio. The second day ended with the bid value at Rs 6,032.50 crore. There are expectations of an even bigger windfall when the third day of e-auction resumes at 11 am today. 

As reported earlier, the first ever e-auction by BCCI commenced on April 3, 2018 at 2 pm and concluded at 6 pm with a bid price of Rs 4,442 crore. 

The bid offer of Rs 6,032.50 crore for the Consolidated Rights puts the per match value at Rs 59.14 crore, which has exceeded the per match value of Rs 55 crore for the Indian Premier League. 

The media rights are for a five-year period from April 1, 2018 till March 31, 2023 and include three packages: 

  1. Global Television Rights plus ROW Digital Rights Package.
  2. Indian Subcontinent Digital Rights Package.
  3. Global Consolidated Rights Package.

As is known, Rs 35 crore is the base price for the 2018-19 season for the global television rights and rest of the world digital rights (GTVRD). The base price Indian subcontinent alone is Rs 8 crore, while the base price for the global consolidated rights is Rs 43 crore. 

For the period 2019-2023, the base price for the global television rights and rest of the world digital rights is Rs 33 crore, for the Indian subcontinent the base price is Rs 7 crore and for the global consolidated rights the base price is Rs 40 crore.
